This first monograph on the work of Ilona Plaum, published by Jap Sam Books accompanies the eponymous solo exhibition at Huis Marseille, Amsterdam. (15 February â 22 June 2025)
Drawing, painting, sculpture and photography â all these techniques are brought together into a single image within Ilona Plaum's artistic practice. In her exploration of the possibilities of perception, her hand remains deliberately visible. A photographic diorama emerges in which the movement of organic life is central and which, through the fusion of different techniques and perspectives, challenges your perception.
Rather than an object, a plant occurs to me as a moving space, as a parallel universe. They make me aware of a different time flow. Besides this, their presence is silent. - Ilona Plaum
Ilona Plaum (1970, Amsterdam) studied goldsmithing at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She then developed further as an autonomous artist. Her work is included in private collections at home and abroad and in the corporate collections of Ahold, UMC Utrecht, and the NN Group. Her work is also part of the collection of Huis Marseille.
